Keely Cobb

"We all felt overwhelmed and a bit helpless."

Keely Cobb, 26, is the founder of Around the Stage, a dance company featuring 11 dancers from the Reno-Tahoe area. Founded in 2018, Around the Stage focuses on providing professional dance experiences for rising professional dancers. Cobb also prioritizes collaboration, working with other artist organizations including Reno Little Theater and The Potentialist Workshop.

When the pandemic hit in March 2020, Cobb cancelled all events for the rest of the year. Studio space was no longer an option, forcing dancers to rehearse in the park through the summer. However, Cobb and the other dancers were still able to perform virtually for audiences. They have done music videos with local bands and other local dancers. One music video—titled "Take My Hand"—was even selected to be shown at the virtual Cleveland Dance Festival.

While managing Around the Stage, Cobb is also navigating hybrid learning as the Director of Theater at Sage Ridge School, a private school in south Reno. Cobb's other artistic ventures during COVID-19 include a new love of woodworking.
